Some distraction like your cell phone, laptop or other electronic gadgets must be kept out of your reach while you are reading a book. This will retain your concentration and increase your interest. Try to create a peaceful, calm quite environment around you while you are reading.
A great way to get more into this habit is to read to someone else; maybe your parents, friends or kids. Passing on what you have learnt will not only benefit the other person, but it will help you to remember the things you have read.
